Summer is here which means two words…road trips! Early on in our parenting journey, my husband and I found that having a car kit with essential items for the summer was a good idea. I am here to give you tips and links to all the important items you will need for your summer car kit. Whether this kit is for a road trip or just for the summer months, at some point you will be glad you had these emergency essentials.

First thing you will need is a container to hold all of your items. Listed below is a few ideas of what would work best for your family. Here are a few great bags that are easy to move in and out of your vehicle, making a great container for your car essentials.
Once you have your container established, you will need several different categories of items to fill it. The first essential you will need is water. Using reusable water bottles and filling them up with a gallon of water you keep in your car is an economical way to go. They can easily be refilled at a gas station as well. Here are a few great travel water bottle ideas.
Snacks are a must! Especially if you have a family. You can’t go wrong with bags full of granola bars, mixed nuts, trail mix, apple sauce pouches, fruit pouches, dried fruit, etc. Basically any non-perishable food is good to stock up on. One of our road trip hacks is keep the food near the front and pass the kids small paper cups filled with snacks.
Paper goods, such as paper towels, toilet paper and baby wipes. If you have little’s, extra diapers and small garbage bags are essential. Use something like these garbage containers that will easily fit in your car.
Its a great idea to have smaller items, such as an extra phone charger, flashlight, tire sealant, tire pressure gauge in their own zipped bag. Also a first-aid kit is an essential. You can purchase one already made or compile one out of items from your own medicine cabinet. Along with a first aid kit, it’s always a good idea to have a basic tool kit in your car complete with a set of jumper cables just in case you are in an emergency situation (or someone else is!).
A few other fun (but non-essential) items you can include are a deck of cards, an umbrella, an extra change of clothes, plastic utensils, paper cups and plates. Our family always carries a picnic blanket for impromptu park picnics on all of our summer adventures!
The easiest way to be prepared is having a summer car essentials kit, or summer car emergency kit. This is the perfect time of the year to get your car summer ready and order a few of these essentials to have in your car.
