Several years ago I was looking for patriotic movies that were clean, fun, and filled with history for my younger kids to enjoy over the 4th of July. To tell you the truth, it wasn’t easy to find! That’s why I wanted to share with you some of the best 4th of July movies for kids.
My hope is that you enjoy these family friendly films. Save this post on Pinterest and check back in. I may be adding more movies as I find them! Also, drop your family friendly suggestions in the comments.

Stubby the War Dog
This is a true story of an unexpected, beloved American hero. This movie is set in WWI and follows the story of an American soldier who takes in a stray dog while in basic training. The brave dog, Stubby, becomes the mascot of a battalion of soldiers who are going to be stationed in France. Stubby saves hundreds of soldiers lives in the trenches of war and becomes the most decorated dog in history.
Pups of Liberty
Pups of Liberty is a fun, short movie series that covers the Boston Tea-Bone Party and The Dog-Claration of Independence. As you can already probably tell, these two short movies are a fun way for kids to learn about US history.
Liberty Kids
Liberty Kids is a favorite series that has a very accurate depiction of the Revolutionary War. I have not been able to stream this series, but it was definitely worth purchasing! Liberty Kids is packed with history, adventure, and excitement.
The Defense of New Haven
This movie can be found on Amazon or Pureflix. The Defense of New Haven is a US history lesson whose cast is all child actors. My kids thought this movie was funny, fun, and educational.
The Aviators is a cute movie that follows the story of carrier pigeons and their side-kick mouse during WWII. They must train for war and fight battles against the evil falcons in order to deliver the important messages. This is a fun movie for the whole family.
Tuttle Twins
The Tuttle Twins is a fun and educational kids show on the Angel app. Amazon also has an option to purchase the first season. Not every episode is patriotic, but all of the episodes tackle important social issues in a fun, easy to understand manner.
VidAngel Streaming Service
If your family has a wide age range of children, I would suggest investing in the app VidAngel. When using VidAngel, you can edit any movie that streams through Amazon (and other streaming services). For example, we were able to watch Top Gun Maverick with our kids since we could edit out all of the profanity and scenes we were not comfortable with them watching. Using VidAngel made watching Top Gun Maverick enjoyable for the whole family. This is a great option for younger kids (and older kids too). I would highly recommend using VidAngel’s steaming service.
