Here is the ultimate guide to finding the best thrifted home decor. Read about practical tips and be inspired for your next thrifting trip.
One thing I love about finding my home decor secondhand is that I have the freedom to switch it up. Through thrifting, I have found so many beautiful pieces of home decor at a fraction of the price.
If you enjoy DIY projects, there will be lots of options for pieces with “good bones.” Maybe all it needs is a fresh coat of paint and a little creativity.
If you are not big into DIY projects, it’s okay! You can find many quality “as-is” pieces. At this stage of my life, buying “as-is” items is more my speed.
Be Patient
The thing about finding secondhand pieces is that it takes time. Be prepared to be patient and enjoy the thrill of the hunt in order to find that perfect piece. Remember to keep an open mind when shopping at your local thrift store.
You may find a vintage mirror one week and pretty picture frames a few weeks later. That’s the beauty of thrift store finds, giving items a second chance while adding character to your home in the process.
Keep it Cohesive
Everyone has different styles when it comes to home decor and home goods. Keep your home decor esthetic, design style, and color scheme in mind while you thrift. This will help you purchase cohesive pieces for your home.
If you are having a hard time deciding what your home decor esthetic is, create Pinterest boards to help you visualize your personal style.
Ways To Save Money on Your Thrifting Adventure
When are the deal days or sale days?
Does the thrift store have a punch card?
What are you looking for? Whether it’s a piece of furniture like bedside tables, light fixtures, or vintage books for decor, keep a keen eye out for things on your list.
Breathe New Life into Old Things with a DIY Project
Don’t underestimate the power of paint and a good cleaning! This is especially true with vintage items and unique items. Did you find a pair of pretty book ends? Freshen them up with some gold spray paint. Love the mirror but not the color? Tape off the mirror and paint the outside to match your living space.
