An Honest Review on Modern Gents Rings 

Shopping for a less expensive diamond ring?  Have you heard of simulated diamonds but are worried they may look fake?  Let me enlighten you and do a little show and tell about the jewerly company, Modern Gents.  

My Story

Yes, I am one of those people who lost my diamond that was in my wedding ring.  I was so sad when I realized that my diamond had fallen out and was no where to be found.  At the time, we had four children and quite frankly, did not have the extra money to spend on replacing my diamond.  So I went without and purchased a silicone ring to get me by until we could afford to replace my diamond.  

I had a friend told me that she replaced her lost diamonds with lab-created diamonds, purchased at a local jewelry store.  Looking at her ring you would never know the difference.  Her diamonds look just like the real thing! I started researching man-made diamonds and found there are two common types; simulated diamonds and synthetic diamonds.  

I am not an expert, but here is what I found out about the option of purchasing a man-made diamond ring. Keep in mind, I do not know if this particular process is how Modern Gents create their diamonds but they produce simulated diamonds for their jewelry.

What is the difference between simulated diamonds and synthetic diamonds?

Simulated diamonds and synthetic diamonds are two different types of diamonds, often confused due to their similar names.

1. Simulated Diamonds: These are not real diamonds. Instead, they are materials that mimic the appearance of diamonds but are made from different substances. Common examples of simulated diamonds include cubic zirconia and moissanite. These materials may look similar to diamonds but have different chemical compositions and properties.
2. Synthetic Diamonds: These are real diamonds, but they are created in a laboratory instead of being mined from the Earth. Synthetic diamonds have the same chemical composition, crystal structure, and physical properties as natural diamonds. They are grown using high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. Synthetic diamonds can be used in various applications, including jewelry and industrial purposes.

While simulated diamonds offer an affordable alternative to natural diamonds and can be visually similar, synthetic diamonds are actual diamonds with the same characteristics as those found in nature. Therefore, the main difference between them lies in their authenticity and composition.

What are Simulated Diamonds?

These stones closely resemble the sparkle and brilliance of diamonds but are less expensive. Simulated diamond rings can be a great option for those on a budget or for ethical reasons, as they’re typically conflict-free. They come in various styles and settings, from classic solitaires to intricate halo designs, making them suitable for different tastes and occasions. Just remember to check the quality and durability of the materials used to ensure your ring maintains its beauty over time.

What are Synthetic Diamonds?

Synthetic diamond rings are rings that feature diamonds that are grown in a laboratory rather than being mined from the earth. These diamonds have the same chemical composition, crystal structure, and physical properties as natural diamonds but are created through a controlled process in a laboratory setting.

Synthetic and Simulated diamonds have gained popularity for several reasons:

• Ethical concerns: Some people prefer synthetic diamonds because they avoid the environmental and ethical issues associated with diamond industry, such as labor exploitation and environmental impact.
• Cost: Synthetic diamonds can be less expensive than real diamonds of comparable quality, making them an good choice for budget-conscious consumers.
• Customization: Lab-grown diamonds offer more flexibility in terms of size, shape, and color, allowing for greater customization in jewelry design.
• Quality and beauty: Synthetic diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from natural diamonds to the naked eye. They possess the same brilliance, sparkle, and durability as their mined counterparts.  Synthetic diamond rings provide an ethical and customizable alternative to traditional diamond jewelry without the high price tag. 

What I Ordered from Modern Gents

I ordered the Layla in rose gold and the Bella in rose gold.  Together they made a gorgeous wedding set that can be worn together or separate.  Really it is the perfect set for everyday wear, which was what I was looking for.  The “diamonds” are cut so they look like natural diamonds.  Mine even sparkles and shines. One thing I was impressed by was the weight of the rings.  They feel very similar to the weight of a real diamond ring, giving them a timeless feel.  Right away the rings felt like a higher quality option. 

Why Modern Gents?

When I found Modern Gents I knew this was a company worth trying.  They had great price point, their website has thousands of reviews, and they had beautiful rings.  I received my rings within 3 business days.  The shipping was unbelievably fast!  The rings came individually and well packaged in nice white boxes with a ring sleeve and care guide card.  There is also an option on the Modern Gents website to add a ring box for an extra charge.  

Modern Gents offers a large variety of engagement rings and wedding bands (for men and women).  They also have trending rings like a halo engagement ring and include all the details such as the carat count.  Most of the bands are 925 sterling silver with gold, or rose gold platted options.  

Possible Allergens

Each ring from Modern Gents are crafted from .925 Sterling silver and then hardened with Zinc, which are much less common allergens than nickel or iron. They are then plated with either gold, silver, or rose gold.

After wearing my ring for several months and treating it like my 14K gold wedding ring, it has began to tarnish. Now, with that said, I never took it off. Make note of the care instructions that come with the ring.

Customer Service

I don’t know if it has anything to do with the quality of Modern Gents ring, because it has happened to my finger before with my 14K gold wedding ring, but after my ring began to tarnish the skin around my ring finger became very dry and sensitive. Since it is not made with common allergens like nickel or iron, it may not be Modern Gents issue at all. I can have very sensitive skin.

Nonetheless, I reached out to Modern Gents, sent them pictures and my order number, explaining my situation. They responded promptly with a solution. They would replace my ring. I was very happy with this solution and thought their customer service was great. Modern Gents sent me my exact order free of charge.

Conclusion

One of my other favorite features is that the company is very clear on sizing. They offer many pictures, and a lot of information about the ring, making it easy to make an informed purchase.  

If you are in the market for affordable wedding rings, ethical engagement ring, travel ring, or you just need a new look, I would recommend ordering from Modern Gents. Their rings are beautiful and are a great price point. My experience with their customer service was helpful and prompt, which is really important to me as a customer.
